It’s not only people with awkward haircuts anymore, who care about how they build their next home. Building eco-friendly and sustainable housing has reached the broad middle classes.
Architects and designers better brush up on the basics. Here some simple ideas to make a big difference:
- Green roofs – great, because they insulate the house, contribute to the city’s green lung, keep the temperature down and hey - make butterflies happy.
- Collect rain water – assuming you actually have some rain to collect… doesn’t take much and your roof provides enough water for flushing the toilet or watering the garden.
- Use the sun – get some solar panels on your green roof and power your heat up your shower water. Two benefits in one: You save electricity AND safe water, especially in areas where it’s rather cloudy.
